Humble.

So, last night, i dragged my nani out of the house at about 7:30. And i told her that i was going to show her all the stars. She said i see them every night. But i was referring to the constellations. And one by one, i pointed out all the constellations that were visible and i showed her sirius, the brightest star in the sky. I told her that if the earth was a lentil seed, then the sun was a water melon and sirius would be a thousand water melons. And as we were pointing out the stars, fascinated by what looked like glow worms stuck on a sticky black cloth, nani said "imagine how bright and big these stars are. We can see them even though we're so far." and i wondered. again. About how it was so amazing that we can look at the past, yet we're in the present. See, if a star's light takes 6 million light years to reach us, and today we see a star, that means we are looking at an image of the star which was there 6 million years ago. and if a star dies tomorrow, we'll know that we'd been looking at something for the past, 15 years (in my case), but that same thing had stopped existing 6 million years ago. I don't know about you but, that fascinates me.
2 days ago, we did go to see Mrs.Wood and she remembered nani. And she remembered my masis and my mother. And on the way back , nani and i ended up talking about my masi who died. She was 16. Died in the same car accident that killed my nana. Anyway, as we got back, nani was pulling out all my masi's sketches since i'd said i wanted to paint a horse and my nani said that maybe we could find a horse in one of her sketches. By the end of it, we had sketches, and we had the poems that my masi wrote, but no one found out about them until after she died, and we had the clothes she was wearing the day she died and we had the last letter she ever sent to my other masi. And I read the letter and right after i was done, i was planning a quick escape, in order to NOT freak my nani out by bursting into tears. My throat hurt like never before and i was finding it hard to hold the tears back. And just as i read the last line, my nani asked me to read the letter out since her eye sight was weak. My voice cracked and my throat ached, but in the end, i managed to escape with a single tear rolling down my cheek which i wiped away as fast i could. Then i quickly went to the other room, shut the door and cried for an hour straight. today again, we got talking about my masi and then my nana, the throat ache re-appeared. i don't know why, but i am really close to them, even though i never met them. Apparently there are a lot of their characteristics in me. Nani keeps telling me that. I look like my masi and my nature or temperament or whatever, is a lot like my nana's and a part of it is like my masi's. I like that fact, for some reason. And oddly enough, my masi and I shared the same passion. In the letter she wrote "...'tis all a game, we're born, we live for a bit and then we die. You mustn't get too stressed renu di, you never know what tomorrow brings..." and well, a couple of days later, she died. She didn't think like a 16 year old.
Anyway, back to the sun. Here's where the title of this post makes sense. So , have you ever wondered what would happen if the sun failed to rise one day? Besides the fact that we'll freeze to death, the plants won't make food, eventually they'll die, so will the animals, and so will we. The water will freeze to ice, so the fish will die. Basically, life will cease to exist. Now, if just consider the sun to be an animate object. Ever noticed those people who have no character to say the least, but walk about as though they own the world and that they're the center of our world? You know, daddy's little brats? Well, i think they have something they could learn form the sun. Humility, it rises every single day, at a particular time, and it sets, and it spreads it's warmth and it's light and it shines. It shines with pride, and with humility. It does what it's supposed, though it can easily not. And it doesn't get swayed by pride, even though the world does revolve around it.
ps- we're still talking about the sun as though it wasn't inanimate.
