Love each other, or Perish.

Morrie's favorite saying. I finished reading the book, and despite the fact that it was about a dying man, talking about death, i didn't cry until the very last chapter, the one in which he dies. He seemed to be such an optimistic, happy man, not even death could sway him. Just goes to show that death is only as scary as we think it is. Same way, things are only the way that we think they are.
I've been going for french tuition, to Mrs.Wood. One day, i was waiting for her to get her tea and i saw these pictures framed together, along with a piece of paper stating that he had worked at St.George's College in Mussoorie, since 1943 and thus they were naming their gymnasium after him. "M.C. Wood Gymnasium". I reached home and i called Arsenal up, "hey, what was the name of your school gymnasium?" He thought for a bit, "umm, M.C. Wood Gymnasium. Why?" " Oh! his wife teaches me french." Funny little world ain't it? Mr. Wood is like a sweet yet grumpy old man. He's over 80 for sure. And Mrs. Wood, Mrs. Margret Wood, who waits for me everyday in her dining room, with her cup of tea, bottles of ink and exam papers, is 80; and teaches French to students in 2 schools. In one, she has a class of 75 boys. She's funny. Spoke to me about how she'd seen eunuchs dance in Pataya, in Thailand. Then she said "they danced so beautifully darling (she uses that word a lot) and after the show this young student who'd taken us there came to Mayburn (Mr.Wood) and asked him whether he thought that those boys looked like girls and Mayburn said 'what man? those are women. not boys' but then we saw an american man taking one of the dancer's clothes off and he had his hand on her breast and there was no breast!" and she bursts out laughing. I tried to keep a straight face, though i didn't know if i was trying hard not to make a weird face or trying not to laugh! And she told me about how her husband, when he was young, was sent to this place in Thailand where he was told he'd find pretty little girls, 15, 16, 17 year olds, who'd act like prostitutes in exchange for money. Then she said, and remember, an 80 year old lady is saying this to me and i'm just trying not to get weirded out, "The girls won't umm... make love yousee, they're very young. But they serve the man food, they'll massage, umm... their... umm.. hands and legs (she said with this sudden enthusiasm as though as was relieved that she'd found words to fill in the empty blanks) and the girl might even, you know, umm... give them... (and here i'm praying, please don't say BJ, please don't say BJ)... give them, a bath, maybe. All for money. But such pretty young girls!"
She somehow manages to laugh about people who've died, and somehow manages to laugh about herself dying. That weirds me out a bit. And then there was the time when there was a loud sound coming from above, and she says "oh don't worry, that's just the squirrel chasing his girlfriend! *grins* They've been making babies all this while, so it could also be the babies running around!" Yeah, she's a peculiar old lady who teases all of us about our boyfriends. and when she's teaching french she translate this verb (which i forgot) and say "to lean against.... your boyfriend" or stuff like "this verb means to chase...your boyfriend" it goes on and on. Makes me feel pretty weird, i mean it'd be a different thing if i actually had one. The other day this girl, Tiffany, who comes to Mrs.Wood as well, was wearing a skirt and Mrs.Wood says "OH! you've grown taller, your skirt is getting shorter for you. But keep it that way, for your boyfriend *laughs* short skirts are in anyway!" Mr.Wood on the other hand, asked me a riddle the first day which i got right. Since then he's been asking my riddles each time i go there, i.e twice a day, and somehow i keep getting them right. That seems to annoy him, i know he won't stop until i get one wrong. :) I decided to bake them a cake, i feel close to them, i don't know why. Maybe cause we talk about my grandfather and my masi, the ones who died. Mr. and Mrs.Wood are lovely people indeed. And they've got me using weird words cause they're british, so. Which reminds me, Mrs.Wood randomly stated that Germans were very mean people. Also, when Tiffany said something about her teacher refusing to give them their answer scripts back, Mrs.Wood said "Tell her to shove it up her arse!". Ever heard an 80 year old saying that?
There's this thing called the Gala Night At the Coonoor Club this evening. I'm supposed to be there, but it'll be boring. Anyway, i'm cutting my hair tomorrow, again.
PS- my nani's garden is in full bloom with flowers i haven't even heard of let alone seen! It's pretty. I think it's going to rain tonight, seeing the clouds there might even be a minor cyclone. They have those a lot out here. Fat, fat trees fall down just with the wind.
PPS- The wind actually makes the trees howl out here. A little freaky hen you're home along, the lights are out and you've got a candle on, knowing the power won't come back all night cause an electricity pole's been knocked down and it's too rainy for anyone to actually go fix it. And then, *poof* no candle, and then the wind howls and whistles and grunts and screams, and then there's lightening. It's fun. -.-
