Witness

Everyone wants to be in love and have a partner, because they want someone to witness their lives.
They want to know that every shitty little struggle that they've had in their stupid, meaningless lives, is acknowledged by someone. They want their dreams, and lives, to have some meaning.

On most days, no one would care about how your boss took credit for your work, or how the labourers working for you messed up with the cement, or how you almost lost a patient in the OT but managed to save him in the end. All these personal disappointments and achievements, don't mean squat to the people around you. Unless one of them happens to love you.

And just like that, just by having someone love you, and care about you, you automatically have someone who cares about what you do; and how your day goes, and all your personal struggles. You now have a smaller world, in which someone cares about you; existing within a larger world, in which people don't really care about what you do.

No one wants to die knowing that their life meant nothing. But not all of us can be great scientists, politicians or military men. Most of us are just average people, with average people goals, and average people struggles and average days. Not to say average is a bad thing, though social media today will convince you that it is. Average is good. Average is balanced.

But everyone wants to feel like a King every once in a while. That's where love comes in.
